It’s spring, so hats and scarves are not really appropriate projects, especially since I don’t really wear hats, and no one in my family really needs any more. I got myself a glorious little ball of yarn for Valentine’s day, <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_bJ29r6iG_eY/R97FtzJWbCI/AAAAAAAAAAc/5XLWJqaqzgU/s320/vday.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178794012136860706" />and I still haven’t figured out what to do with it. They only had one, so it can’t be anything big. Maybe, Laurie Perry’s Bangle Bracelet Bag (unfelted?)?

I am working on a teddy bear out of Scoubi Du (50% cotton/ 50% acrylic) purple stonewash. The woman at the Kirkwood Knittery www.kirkwoodknittery.com (great store!) tried to sell me on wool, but I wanted something completely washable, and I sure didn’t want to be the one who makes someone’s brand new baby break out in her first rash. The Scoubi Du has worked fabulously! I am going to make a bunny next, I think.

I am also making a little case for my DPN’s. It will be made out of an acrylic Bernat afghan yarn, that isn’t the softest, but I love the colors! I wanted something so that I’m not always digging in my bag for that other DPN, and I thought about buying something. Then I thought, “I’m a knitter darnit, and I can just make something with leftovers! Isn’t that the whole point?!”

I started and finished Crazy Aunt Purl’s Drunk, Divorced, and Covered in Cat Hair. It was awesome! I laughed until I cried and totally identified. I could definitely recommend it! Plus, it was nice to read someone who isn’t any kind of yarn snob, and who understands that any knitting that makes you tense, defeats the purpose.

Tomorrow night, I am thinking of joining a book club and checking out a new yarn shop at once. Knitty Couture www.knittycouture.com is having a book club, and they are reading The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. I would love to check out the new store and meet other knitters, but I am still debating about studying the meat-packing industry of a century ago. Hmmm… But, they have a new camel yarn I am dying to feel, so I’m sure I’ll stop by either way.

Since sweaters overwhelm me, and hats and scarves are getting old, if anyone has any ideas that don’t involve “cozying” everything I own, please share, as I must get out of my rut!

Appropo First Post

You're Not Exactly a Hippie...

While you're not a hippie, you've got the spirit of one.

Like most hippies, you have deep beliefs and unusual interests.

You may not buy into hippie fashions, music, or heavy drug use.

But at heart, you are a free spirit and suspicious of the status quo.

Are You a Hippie?
